MONTGOMERY LAW
LEGAL INFORMATION AND STRATEGY SESSION AGREEMENT AND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
Version 1.1 · Effective 5 August 2026
I am pleased to welcome you to our legal information and strategy service. By engaging this service and paying for legal information and strategy, you are hereby agreeing to the following.
1. What this agreement is
This is an agreement for limited legal information and strategy services between you (the client) and me (the attorney), practising as Montgomery Law Group, PLLC (“Montgomery Law”). This session by itself is not representation and does not include the pursuit of any legal action. The attorney-client relationship created by this agreement begins at the start of the call and ends at the conclusion of the call.
Whether we go on to represent you, and the scope of any representation, is decided after the session. Many clients use the LISS as a first step and go on to retain us. That decision belongs to both of us once we have talked about your situation, and any representation would be set out in a separate written agreement.
2. What you receive
The fee is $600 and covers three hours of attorney time:
- One hour of record review before the call, in which I read the documents you send
- One hour by Zoom with you, in which I provide legal information and strategy
- One hour preparing a written memorandum setting out the legal information and strategy discussed, which is yours to keep
During the call, I will provide legal information and strategy based on the limited information provided by you. My advice is limited to the record review, the call, and the memorandum.
The memorandum is delivered within five business days of your session, and usually sooner.
3. No guarantee of outcome
I do not guarantee the outcome of any legal matter, and the information and strategy provided is not a substitute for legal representation or advice from a licensed attorney. You are responsible for following up with any additional legal action or representation.
By engaging in this service and paying for the legal information and strategy provided, you acknowledge and agree that I am not responsible for any legal outcomes or consequences resulting from the use of the information and strategy provided during the call.
4. Any further representation is separate
Any further representation would be subject to a new written and signed agreement.
5. Deadlines remain your responsibility
It is your responsibility to be mindful of any applicable statute of limitations or other legal requirements, and I will not be held responsible for any failure to meet such requirements.
Because this matters and deadlines in school matters are often short: if you are near a deadline, or you have a hearing, IEP meeting or manifestation determination coming up, tell us when you book and tell us again at the start of the call.
6. Who will conduct your session
Please note that the lawyer conducting your LISS might be an “of counsel” attorney affiliated with our firm, rather than a resident attorney. “Of counsel” is a term in the legal profession that refers to an attorney who has a relationship with a law firm but is not an associate or partner.
For clients in locations where Montgomery Law does not maintain a physical presence, we rely on the expertise and licensure of “of counsel” attorneys in those jurisdictions to provide specific guidance on local law.
Montgomery Law is domiciled in Florida and maintains offices in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Florida and Maine.
7. Scheduling
We will schedule your meeting once we receive payment.
8. Getting more from your session
Your session includes an hour of record review before the call. That hour is only useful if we have your records. Please send, as soon as you have booked:
- The current IEP or 504 plan
- Any evaluations, including independent evaluations
- Correspondence with the district, including emails
- Discipline notices, hearing notices, or manifestation determination paperwork
- Anything with an upcoming date on it
If we receive nothing in advance, the review hour cannot be used as intended and part of the call will go on gathering facts instead of strategy.
9. Fee, cancellation and rescheduling
The $600 fee is payable in advance. It is earned in three equal parts of $200 as each part of the work is performed: the record review, the Zoom session, and the memorandum.
| If you | Then |
|---|---|
| Cancel or reschedule 48 hours or more before your session, before record review has begun | Full refund of $600, or reschedule at no charge |
| Cancel less than 48 hours before your session, after record review has been completed | $200 retained, $400 refunded |
| Do not attend your scheduled session, or cancel less than 24 hours before it | $400 retained, $200 refunded, because the review was completed and the time was reserved, but no memorandum is produced |
| Attend your session | The fee is fully earned. The memorandum follows. |
| Need to move your session | One reschedule at no charge. Later changes are treated as a cancellation under the rows above. |
If we cannot proceed because of a conflict of interest, you receive a full refund of $600. That applies whenever the conflict is identified, including after record review. A conflict is not your fault and we do not keep your money for it.
10. Use of technology
We may use artificial intelligence tools where appropriate in providing this service, including AI-assisted note taking during your session. Any such use remains subject to our obligations of confidentiality. An attorney reviews and is responsible for the legal information and strategy you receive.
11. Version of this agreement
The version of this agreement that applies to you is the version identified by number and date at the top of this document, which is the version you accepted when you paid. We retain a copy of the version you accepted.
12. Questions before you pay
I look forward to assisting you with your legal needs and providing you with valuable legal information and strategy. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for entrusting Montgomery Law to provide legal information and strategy for your issue.
